About Bellwood Violin
Will Scharen, owner of Bellwood Violin, and founder Stephen Bacon
Bellwood Violin has been providing services to musicians in southern Oregon and northern California since 1985. Located in Ashland, Oregon, Bellwood is the only fully equipped string repair, rental and sales shop between Portland and the Bay Area.
Luthier Stephen Bacon founded the shop in 1985 and managed it until 2025, when Will Scharen, who assisted Stephen in managing the business and apprenticed under him for several years, bought Bellwood and continues the long tradition of serving local musicians and schools, as well as musicians who come from afar who need their instruments repaired, appraised, or consigned, or who want to try out instruments for purchase from the wide selection Bellwood offers.
The shop provides many essential services to professional musicians, amateurs, students, and teachers.
- We provide in-house instrument and bow repairs for the local school districts as well as the general public.
- We meet the professional needs of the Southern Oregon University, Britt Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and other local organizations and events.
- We serve as a clearinghouse for instrument makers from the local community as well as maintaining an inventory of fine instruments.
- We provide an educational outlet by offering apprenticeships and internships.
We help local students, teachers and professional musicians network with each other. - We offer insurance appraisals, string instrument rentals and consignment services.
