Alex’s journey in instrument repair began at the age of twelve, when he began an
apprenticeship with Stephen Bacon at Bellwood Violin. At seventeen, he traveled to Cremona, Italy to study violin making at the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria “Antonio Stradivari”graduating in 2013. Alex now lives and works in Southern Oregon, where he builds Modern and Baroque Violins violas and cellos in his personal shop and provides ongoing repair and restoration services for Bellwood Violin. He also travels regularly to Italy to work with master luthiers Roberto Cavagnoli and Barbara Piccinotti, continuing to deepen his understanding of the traditional Italian style of fine instrument making.
